Treating Gastrointestinal Problems in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Purpose: To study a new treatment to reduce gut and stomach problems in adults with autism.
Who can enroll? Individuals with autism spectrum disorder age 18-60 years who also have gut, stomach or digestive problems.
Treatment: Involves swallowing medications to improve stomach problems. Half of participants will receive 8 weeks of treatment and half will receive 18 weeks of treatment.
Duration: The study involves 3 visits to the doctor and 3 visits for an autism evaluation over 20 weeks. There are also follow-up visits for an autism evaluation at 6, 12, and 18 months after the treatment ends.
